BTS Club × Revellers’ Club
An Evening of Intelligence, Intrigue and History
Monday, 9th June 2025
Private Venue Hollywood Road, Chelsea, SW10
We’re delighted to extend an exclusive invitation to BTSC guests, in collaboration with Revellers’ Club, for a truly fascinating evening hosted by former Scots Guards officer and author Tim Spicer OBE.
Tim will be sharing stories from his new book, A Suspicion of Spies — a gripping biography of Wilfred “Biffy” Dunderdale, the martini-drinking, submarine-demonstrating, Nazi-outsmarting British intelligence officer who helped smuggle the ENIGMA machine out of occupied Europe… and whose life is widely believed to have inspired James Bond.
This is more than a talk — it’s an evening of storytelling, rich historical context, and company you’ll be glad to share it with.

Why attend?
This is a rare opportunity to hear from a man whose military and intelligence career spans conflict zones and secret corridors alike — and whose latest book uncovers the true stories behind one of the most extraordinary lives in British spy history.
Expect to hear:
• How Biffy smuggled the ENIGMA machine into Britain, changing the course of WWII
• Why he may have been one of Ian Fleming’s key inspirations for James Bond
• His connections to Polish Intelligence, OSS (the CIA’s forerunner), and the origins of the Special Relationship
• And tales of espionage in 1920s Paris, brothels, cabaret clubs, and codebreakers
Spicer will also speak about how intelligence work was shaped not only by strategy, but by charm, luck, and audacity — qualities Dunderdale had in spades.
This promises to be an unmissable evening of insight and company — a chance to learn, connect, and enjoy a different kind of Monday night.

Curious to know more before the night?
Wilfred “Biffy” Dunderdale wasn’t just a spy — he was the kind of man intelligence legends are made of. Fluent in multiple languages, impeccably dressed, and endlessly resourceful, he built espionage networks under Nazi noses and smuggled the ENIGMA machine back to Britain — a move that may well have changed the course of World War II.
This is the extraordinary real-life character who helped inspire James Bond, and whose untold story will be brought to life by Tim Spicer OBE — former Scots Guards officer and private military strategist turned author. With firsthand experience in the world of high-stakes security and intelligence, Spicer offers a rare insider’s perspective into the covert lives of men like Dunderdale.
Join us on Monday 9th June to step into that world — one of codebreaking, cocktails, and covert operations — told in unforgettable detail.
